One-On-One Brain Training

Students work one-on-one with a personal brain trainer on a series of games, drills, and activities designed to strengthen the brain’s learning and thinking skills. These include skills like memory, attention span, and how quickly you think. Brain training can also target fundamental skills used for activities like reading, writing and math.

Ready For an Unconvential Approach to Reading Help?

To conceptualize all of this, one can visualize the Science of Reading as a pyramid built on a foundation of cognitive skills.

Without a strong foundation of cognitive skills, an instructor may feel like they are building a pyramid upon sand that is quickly slipping away.

  • Extensive research over the last thirty years has shown that good reading instruction requires a direct, systematic, structured approach that includes phonemic awareness, phonics, spelling, and high frequency words that follow exceptions to the code patterns. Teaching explicitly to decode (including phonological awareness, letter-sound correspondence, and sight recognition) combined with linguistic comprehension (background knowledge, vocabulary, language structure, verbal reasoning, and literacy knowledge) weaves together into a strong ability to read.
  • All of this takes for granted the underlying cognitive skills critical to the process. If one struggles with memory, then there is little to hold onto the codes and complexities. If one struggles with processing speed, then the reader cannot think fast enough to process everything efficiently. If a student has weak auditory processing, they may struggle to connect the code correctly to the sound. A student with poor visual processing may not translate a word description to a picture in their head. If one struggles with attention, then all of this can be undermined.

LearningRx cognitive training programs are backed by over 35 years of research, testing, and development.

Through experience with over 130,000 subjects and sixteen peer-reviewed, published studies we have found that direct, systematic, structured brain training delivered one-on-one with a certified cognitive trainer measurably improves cognitive skills. Our research and practical experience have also shown that these enhanced cognitive skills transfer to improved academic performance and confidence.

For students with reading issues, we combine core cognitive training with a one-on-one, multi-sensory, structured literacy program. Based on the Science of Reading and the Cattell-Horn-Carrol Theory of Cognition, our reading intervention includes explicit and systematic instruction in phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension.

The LearningRx difference is the focus on building strong cognitive skills first because they are the foundation for all learning. The results speak for themselves:
